Pender Pet Retreat
4508 Upper Cub Run Drive, Chantilly; 703-631-9590

When does the title “Pet Retreat” become more accurate than pet boarding?

When all of the amenities of home and more are available for enjoyment and your dog or cat looks forward to their return. Pender Pet Retreat is your pet’s home away from home.

Your cat or dog is treated as a guest at Pender Pet Retreat. Their location is very close to the south end of Dulles Airport at 4508 Upper Cub Run Drive in Chantilly, VA. They have multiple accommodation choices for their canine guests to best suite all sizes and activity levels while their feline guests have spacious condos with bird watching available if your cat prefers.

Just like Pender Vet Animal Hospital in Fairfax, your pet will have 24-hour oversight and care. They welcome visitors and love to showcase their facility so please give them a call to schedule a tour today!

Whole Dogz
4748 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria; 703-751-3649

Patrick Kenkel, Whole Dogz Manager/Owner, has always had dogs in his life. He begged for a dog while away at college in California (Halle Berry now serves as the Whole Dogz official greeter!) and has cared for many neighbor/friend/referred dogs as a pet sitter. He has volunteered with animal shelters and managed a local doggie daycare. He has a special way with dogs. No dog is too big of a challenge for his large heart.

His mom, Mary Kenkel, wanted Patrick to be able to live his dream of working with and caring for dogs. So, she and her partner, John, pooled their funds and brought everyone's vision of Whole Dogz to reality. Here, they provide dogs with a safe and non-toxic place for doggie daycare where pups can play in large indoor/outdoor facilities, adorable suites for overnight boarding providing a place to relax while their owners are away for a day or for an extended period of time.

Patrick has extensive experience as a manager of dog daycares in the Alexandria area. Mary has a day job as a consultant and John flies to Houston every week for his day job! Each of them brings a special aspect to the business to ensure that Whole Dogz is a success: a place where your dog is the center of attention and comes back home happy, nourished and exercised.

 Dog Parks

Baron Cameron Dog Park

Just like at Healthy Hound Playground where one can take their pup for dog day care and boarding, there is more than one play area. There is the main play area, as well as a smaller one that is fenced off for smaller guys that may be a little daunted by the occasional rough play in the larger dog area.

Duke Street
Duke Street, Alexandria; 703-746-4774

Modifications for maintenance access were added for improved service to the dog park. Future improvements may include small park shelters, lights, and a gravel path for maintenance access. The project will transition into the construction stage, which will be phased over the summer and early fall.

Mason District
Intersection of Alpine Drive and Pinecrest Parkway, Annandale; 703-324-8702

The Fairfax County Park Authority welcomes leashed dogs in this park. In addition, for owners of well-socialized canines who enjoy a good run, a friendly romp, or simply the presence of other dogs and people, the Park Authority operates dog parks or dog runs. These are designated fence-enclosed areas where unleashed dogs can have free play. At present, the Park Authority has eleven established dog parks located throughout Fairfax County.

Volunteer Dog Park Monitors are Park Authority volunteers who assist staff with the operations and maintenance of each dog park. They do so by encouraging awareness of dog park rules and regulations, reporting maintenance needs to the Park Authority, picking up litter and dog waste in order to model proper use and to keep park areas clean; and by promoting a sense of community among those who visit a dog park.

Operating Hours are 7 a.m. to one half-hour after sunset Monday through Friday. On weekends and federal holidays, the hours are 8 a.m. to one half-hour after sunset.

The Large Dog Park is open to dogs of all sizes, and features a large open grassy play area, watering station, benches, picnic tables, and mature shade trees on the east side.

Healthy Hound Playground
45910 Transamerica Plaza, Suite 109, Sterling; 703-464-0056

Healthy Hound Playground was conceived by Brandon Power in the summer of 2012. After spending 18 years in the management consulting industry, he decided it was time for a big change. Brandon grew up with a passion for dogs and always had a keen interest in these special creatures and enjoyed training his own rescue dogs. It was time to turn his passion into his career.

Brandon wanted to build a facility where he and his wife, Shayda, would feel comfortable leaving their own dogs. It was their belief that dogs are entitled to some core services, whether socializing in day care or boarding overnight.

After investigating the pet boarding service industry in their area, he felt he could offer the market something new and innovative by combining some key features that were not currently being provided in tandem, along with a high level of creature comfort and a superior customer experience. Such features included regular outdoor potty breaks along with 12 hours of continuous cage-free dog day care, spacious kennels, and 24/7 onsite attendants. His goal was to provide these services and keep the cost to customers at a competitive price point.

Woofie’s
44200 Waxpool Road, Suite 137, Ashburn; 571-426-6503

Woofie’s staff are lifelong pet owners and animal lovers, and for years, they were constantly being called upon by friends, coworkers, and family to pet-sit while they were out of town. They love getting to know new furry friends, but realize that the reliable, personalized, professional pet care services that their friends and neighbors needed simply didn’t exist in our community.

They opened the first Woofie’s location in September of 2004 in Ashburn, Virginia. Word about their services spread like wildfire. Soon, they were busy seven days a week and had built a team of trustworthy pet care professionals to meet their customers’ demands.

In 2011, at the request of many of their regulars, they expanded their services to include boutique mobile grooming. They started with one mobile pet spa van, and today, have a fleet of seven vans running seven days a week that are all staffed by fantastic professional groomers.

In 2015 they moved into their corporate office and added a training center where pet owners and pet care professionals can learn pet CPR, first aid, and more. In 2018, Woofie’s LLC was incorporated to build their franchise offering and make their services available to more and more communities.

Katie’s Mobile Pet Spaw
Multiple locations serviced; 571-758-3174

Owner, Katie has over 12 YEARS of experience grooming dogs and is very passionate about providing your pet with a relaxing, personalized groom.

She started out in a big corporation grooming salon, but quickly realized a small shop setting was more what she wanted. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of a big company allowed her to be more focused on grooming and the individual needs of each dog. She found a job in a salon with only 3 other groomers and was able to train on the job and learn the ins and outs of the grooming profession.

After more than 12 YEARS in the profession, she now has now started her own mobile grooming company. KATIE’S MOBILE PET SPAW is the perfect opportunity for her to be able to cater to each individual pet’s needs. It brings a quiet, peaceful environment without the extra noise and commotion of a grooming salon.

She is very excited to meet each and every new pet, and looks forward to the opportunity to form a new bond with your dogs, all while making them look beautiful!
