Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington
Who
BGCGW covers 75 miles from Manassas to Germantown, serving as safe havens for their members. Open when schools are not, these clubs provide a safe and fun alternative to being home alone or on the street. Over 1,500 youth attend the Clubs for activities, to see their friends, and to spend time with positive and encouraging adults.
They welcome every child for a nominal annual membership fee, but will not turn any child away for inability to pay
Formula for Impact
BGCGW serves the Greater Washington area’s kids through five key elements for positive youth development, an adopted strategy created by their National Headquarters. This serves as a roadmap for regional Clubs to help ensure that each one of their members achieves priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. It also incorporates high-yield learning activities, targeted programs and regular attendance. At all of the BGCGW sites they incorporate this model to achieve success.
