EXPLORING ALEXANRIA

A Northern Virginia Community

Everyone in the DMV knows that living in Northern Virginia is "the bar," and Alexandria Virginia is the pinnacle (don't tell Arlington or D.C. we said that because we will deny it) as far as NoVA living is concerned.  With a different festival happening every month, the numerous farmers markets, and various other events taking place year-round, Alexandria is a multifaceted cultural explosion only 7 miles south of Washington D.C.

Alexandria has the most diverse population out of the entire DMV region, and that's saying A LOT because the DMV area is extremely diverse. This diversity contributes to the awesomeness that is Alexandria in relation to its cuisine, spiritual, educational, and recreational contributions. We don't know anywhere else in the DMV that within a half-mile radius, you could have Thai, Afghan, Ethiopian, Irish, vegan, and gluten-free food.

Alexandria has a ton of parks, trails, fields, and water options that will keep even the most hardcore outdoor enthusiast busy for months on end. The Torpedo Factory is a great place to start your outdoor shenanigans. Located directly on the Potomac River, the adjacent park has three volleyball pits, a trail, workout stations, and huge boulders where you could sit with your feet in the river. There is also the Mount Jefferson Park Trail, where you could get your bike, walk, jog, skate, or roll on for miles on end. If transitioning between MD, D.C., and VA is a necessity, take the water taxi from here and head over to National Harbor MD, or up to the SW Waterfront in D.C. for some variety in your weekend. You can even take the water taxi to the NATS stadium and catch a game!

What do locals love?

Old Town's "King Street mile," has the most extensive collection of independent boutiques in the DMV. Here you will peruse shops that offer curated selections of paper, vintage jewelry, art, vegan leather, and SO much more. There are also international favs such as JCREW, West Elm, The GAP, H&M and Zara too. In Old Town, the King Street Trolley (which is FREE) will whisk you off to most of your favorite destinations. But don't just stick to the main drags here, turning down a random cobblestone street could initiate an unforeseen adventure or to the discovery of new treasures. Just a short trip away from Old Town in Del Ray, you will find more shopping along Mount Vernon Avenue. For a more suburban experience, you'll want to checkout Potomac Yards. With everything from Target to a movie theater, this will most likely be where you will end up at some point during the weekend for household errands or dinner. If it's something a little more unique that you're after, try the Torpedo Factory down on the riverfront.
