Lorton is a town in southeast Fairfax County. The area is surrounded by many historical landmarks, including Woodlawn Plantation and George Washington’s home, Mt. Vernon, which is located just north on the Potomac River.
In terms of education, Lorton is served by the Fairfax County Public Schools system with six elementary schools (Gunston, Lorton Station, Silverbrook, Halley, Laurel Hill) and two high schools (Hayfield Secondary, South County Secondary). Lorton is also home to a Fairfax County Public Library.
Over the past few years, considerable growth and development has taken place in the Lorton Area. Lorton now features a variety of town centers and shopping centers with stores like Shoppers Food Warehouse and Virginia ABC, and restaurants such as Glory Days, Quiznos, Baskin Robbins, McDonald's and Caribou Coffee, among others.
Whatever your faith, Lorton has a church for you, including historic Pohick Church where George Washington attended services.
With I-95 and US-1 running through the community, you are just a convenient drive away from Washington D.C., as well as other towns in the area, including the beautiful and historic town of Occoquan. Lorton also serves as the northern terminal for the Amtrak Auto Train to-and-from Florida.
Golfers: have fun at the Laurel Hill Golf Course, or Pohick Bay Golf Course; both are nearby.
