On the edge of the community, there is a small shopping center, Fairlington, which features a variety of shops and stores including a chain drug store and a Cadillac Dealership. Fairfax County Public Schools serve the area, with two elementary schools (George Mason, Charles Barrett), one middle school (George Washington) and one high school (T.C. Williams).

Alexandria as a whole is unique in that in 2008, the city council approved an “Eco City” bill with an ultimate goal of pushing its residents and the city as a whole towards energy sustainability. The city also offers a free trolley service and a “water taxi” that provides access to and from the National Harbor in Prince George’s County in nearby Maryland.

For years, North Ridge has been regarded as one of the highly desirable communities within Alexandria, and with all of the amenities, events and recreational opportunities located within the area, it is safe to say that North Ridge is a great community to live in!
