Silas Burke born in 1796 created a legacy for years to come. Burke passed away in 1854 after establishing himself as a farmer, local politician and even a merchant.

In those days, he held many titles and important positions in order to create what is now known as Burke. He owned the land on which the Orange & Alexandria Railroad tracks were laid. It was originally referred to as Burke's Station due to his generous contribution of an easement so that progress could continue with the railroads in 1840.

Today the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) is conveniently located with 2 stops in the Burke area. One of the stops is off of Roberts Road in a subdivision called Burke Centre. The other VRE station is on Burke Road on the edge of Burke & Springfield. Burke also boasts its own Post Office. The Burke Post Office and Fire Station.
