DC Chili Cook-Off 2012

by The Nellis Group

This Saturday is one of the Washington, D.C. metro area's biggest festivals, the DC Chili Cook-off.  This year the lineup is looking good with Cake and Incubus headlining the event at RFK Stadium in D.C. Other bands that will be performing include Airborne Toxic Event, Awolnation, Neon Trees, Civil Twilight, and Twin Atlantic.

But the cook-off is not just a fun day of music and great chili.  The part we like at the Nellis Group is that it supports charity, one of the cornerstones of our team.  The cookoff supports the National Kidney Foundation.  This event has raised over $10 Million since the first one back in 2001.

Living in the DC metro area gives us a great chance to experience lots of great events like this one.  If you are new to the area or have lived here forever, it doesn't hurt to look at the local Real Estate market and see what kind of great homes are available.  Take the wheel and steer!

Caps Face Off Elimination

by The Nellis Group

Tonight the Washington Capitals will face the New York Rangers at Verizon Center in Washington D.C.  If the Caps don't win they are out of the playoffs.  It is going to be a loud home ice advantage tonight in DC, but can they pull out the W?  A few of us at the Nellis Group were lucky enough to secure some nice seats and we will be in the house Rocking The Red and Unleashing The Fury waiting to find out.

Living in the area surrounding D.C. is great, but sometimes you have to sit in traffic, search forever for a parking spot, or sit on the boring Metro, which gets to be a pain in the neck when it comes to attending games.  And if you work in the city and have to do that commute day after day after day, it can drive you crazy.  Sometimes we wish we could live right downtown.  Well why not at least take a look at some of the homes available in our Nations Capital!

FCA Fellowship Banquet 2012

by The Nellis Group

Last weekend many of us at the Nellis Group were able to listen to some inspirational messages from students in the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).  We also had a chance to hear Mike London, head football coach at UVA who inspired the crowd with his passion and excitement for the FCA.  Take a look at the FCA banquet video:

James Nellis, the CEO of the Nellis Group, started in the FCA when he was in high school at Paul VI in Fairfax, Virginia. The Nellis Group is proud to be the Official Corporate sponsor of FCA today.  We not only give to the FCA, but we also give to other charities, churches, and schools that impact our local community.  View some of our select charities here.

FCA Corporate Sponsorship

by James Nellis - The Nellis Group

It has been a pleasure to be involved with FCA (Fellowship of Christian of Athletes) for over 21 years in the local Northern Virginia & Washington DC area. In that time we have seen many changes to the landscape of sports, athletics and the influence of FCA as a local charity. I first experienced FCA when the Northern Virginia Director (Dan Britton) mentored me in my spiritual walk and helped us start an FCA chapter at Paul VI High School (PVI) in Fairfax, Virginia. After high school I had a rare opportunity to volunteer as a counselor at a Leadership Camp for development of the young athletes in high school. After college, I returned to the Metro DC area and was able to continue to help with FCA as a local business. Our family Real Estate business had been partnering with this charity to impact the local community since my days at PVI.

As a company we are constantly looking for charities that parallel our core values. We have found that with FCA and have had the pleasure to participate on an annual basis as a corporate sponsor with their Charity Fundraising Banquet and Annual Golf Event. Check out FCA in your local community and see how you can get involved today. If you are a business feel free to contact me and I would be happy to share about the corporate sponsorship

New Construction Reality

by The Nellis Group

In Northern Virginia it seems like right now new homes are being built in every county.  So quick question: If you are looking to buy one of these homes and walk into the builder's office does the site agent represent you? No!

There are several myths when dealing with new construction.  The biggest one is that the on-site agent is working in the buyer's best interest. The reality is that the on-site agent is working in the best interest of the builder.  It is essential that the buyer has their own representation to ensure they get the best construction options for resale and negotiate the best terms.

Another myth is that hiring your own representation is an additional cost?  False.  That is another myth.  The cost of hiring representation is already included in the base sales price of the home by the builder. If you as a buyer opt out of having representation it simply means the builder will net a higher profit margin.

These are just two of the myths unveiled that most people believe to be the true when dealing with newly constructed homes.  So what are the new construction realities?  Read more about new construction and see the New Construction Realities.
