Ray's Hellburger: A Rosslyn Community Favorite In Arlington

by The Nellis Group

If you have lived in the Northern Virginia area for a while, you probably remember hearing a lot of news about President Obama eating at a Rosslyn hamburger joint.  That restaurant was Ray's Hell Burger, and it is one of the most popular places to eat for Arlington residents.  People make the trek to Ray's from all over the country, and many people will drive out of their way just to get some famous burgers.  If you live in the neighborhood, you are going to love taking the short trip.

The menu is very simple.  Seven delicious hamburgers in big and small sizes with toppings & seasonings to add, Veggie & Turkey Burgers, and a few classic sides like sweet potato french fries and mac & cheese.  (View Sample Menu at Web Site)

The restaurant itself is really small, almost like a dive.  The paper menus taped to the wall are not much to look at.  Due to the popularity it is often tough to get a good seat  but once you get your meal placed on your table you realize why the crowds flock to Ray's.

The area surrounding Ray's Hell Burger has a lot of great places to live.  Right around the corner are the garden-style condominiums of Colonial Village.  The community is made up of many small condo buildings and a lot of beautiful green space, landscaping, and trees.  The area is deceptive as the high-rises of Rosslyn are only a mile away.

One of those Colonial Village condos is a spacious two-bedroom located at 1817 N. Rhodes Street.  That is only a quarter mile away from Ray's and located right in the popular Orange-Line area of Arlington.  Clarendon, Courthouse, and Rosslyn are all very close.  You can read more about this great condo here.

The Courthouse community of Arlington is a transit-oriented community, with the Courthouse stop on the orange line of the Washington Metro system conveniently located within the community. The neighborhood is made up of mostly high-rise residential and commercial buildings.

Courthouse features about 25 bars and restaurants, ranging from informal lunch spots to upscale dining, making it a popular hot spot for nightlife in the Northern Virginia and Washington area. Area favorites include Kitty O'Sheas, Toscana Grill, Ray's the Steaks, Corner Bakery, Perfect Pita, California Tortilla, and the hip Japanese-American fusion restaurant Sushi Rock. There are also familiar chains like Wendy's, Subway, and Five Guys nearby.

The Colonial Village area of Courthouse features a variety of private condominiums and apartments available for rent. It is also interesting to note that the one of the first garden-style apartment complexes built in the United States, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, calls Courthouse its home!

If you are a golfer, you will be sure to enjoy the areas many golf courses and country clubs, including the Army Navy Country Club and the Washington Golf & Country Club in Arlington, and Bethesda's Congressional Country Club, home of the 2011 U.S. Open.
