Ballston - Virginia Square

The Ballston / Virginia Square neighborhood is one of the most exciting and vibrant neighborhoods in Arlington.  It is one of Arlington's metro-centered urban villiages which means there are lots of great options for shopping, entertainment, and fun.  The area has a mall, an ice rink, a movie theater, a comedy club, and several great restaurants and bars as well as parks. The area also has a large Harris Teeter grocery store.  While known for it's highrise office buildings, apartments, and condos, this area also has several residential homes as well.

The neighborhood is highlighted by having two different metro stations (Ballston and Virginia Square) which provide residents with quick transportation throughout Arlington and beyond.  Public transportation as well as taxi cabs are abundant in this neighborhood as well.  Route 66 which borders this area runs from Front Royal, Virginia, all the way into the city of Washington, D.C.  Overall, Ballston / Virginia Square is a great place to live for someone who is looking for an easy commute and an exciting daily life.

Ballston Common Mall

If you travel to Ballston / Virginia Square you won't miss the Ballston Common Mall.  The mall features all the shops you would expect from a mall with a movie theater, a comedy club, a few restaurants, a brewpub, a food court, and even an ice rink where the Washington Capitals practice and residents go to enjoy some ice skating.

George Mason University & Marymount

One of the newest buildings in this neighborhood is the brand new George Mason University Arlington Campus building.  GMU is a great school and one of the most attended in the state of Virginia.  The Arlington Campus features brand new up to date technologically sound classrooms and is a perfect place to take classes to continue your education after work.  Marymount university is also nearby and the University offers shuttle service from the Ballston Metro.

Quincy Park & Hayes Park

In the center of the highrises the neighborhood features a large urban park.  Quincy Park has tennis courts, baseball fields, sand volleyball, pickup basketball, a playground, and plenty of space to run around.  In the warm weather this park is filled with people having  picnics, laying out in the sun, and enjoying some recreation.  Hayes Park is also just around the corner which has a playground and a summer "spray park" to cool down residents on hot summer days.

Dining

For a formal dining experience, the neighborhood is home to the ellegant Willow, which was one of the Washingtonian's top 100 restaurants in 2010.  Willow offeres moderate continental cuisine with French & Italian influences.  Rustico is another choice which offers gourmet pizza along with an amazing and large wine & beer selection.

The Ballston / Virginia Square area has lots of great options for socializing and hanging out also.  You could watch a game at Bailey's (Sports Pub), drink a freshly brewed unique microbrew at Rock Bottom (Microbrewery), play pub trivia at Union Jack's (English Pub), enjoy some delicious wings at First Down (Sports Bar), take in a classy happy hour at Carribean Breeze, shoot pool at Carpool, or enjoy a nice meal at The Front Page.

Other neighborhood favorites include the Melting Pot, Ted's Montana Grill, Uncle Julio's, Big Buns, Rockland's BBQ, Vapiano, and Grand Cru Wine Bar.

For the late night crowd, Ballston / Virginia Square offers a 24 hour IHOP and 24 hour Mario's Pizza.

El Pollo Rico

One of the hidden gems in the neighborhood is El Pollo Rico.  This neighborhood favorite located on a side street in an older building is one of the busiest places in the area for lunch.  El Pollo Rico features some of the best Peruvian charcoal chicken in the area at an affordable price.
